Juneteenth

By recognizing Juneteenth, our school district not only honors a crucial moment in American history but also reaffirms our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive to create an educational environment where all students feel valued and empowered to learn from the past as we work towards a brighter future.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the freedom of all enslaved people. This significant day came over two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, highlighting the delayed liberation of slaves in some parts of the United States. Juneteenth is a time to honor African American freedom and achievements, while also acknowledging the ongoing struggle for racial equality.
